Japan tax measures in response to COVID-19

The Cabinet recently approved a package of emergency measures to mitigate the economic impact of COVID-19, including the deferral of tax payments, and the National Tax Agency has published guidance on the circumstances under which companies may apply to extend tax return filing deadlines and defer tax payments if they have been affected by COVID-19. The next step in the ratification process is for the draft emergency measures bill to be submitted to and approved by the Diet, which is expected to take place by the end of April.
